Day in Lima
May 27
May 27 - 12-course tasting menu at Maido (#7 restaurant in the world). Walk along “Costa Verde” boardwalk.
Don’t think you can handle 12 courses? Each course is a small taste of the most exquisite flavors your mouth has ever experienced.

Arequipa
May 28-29
May 28 - Fly to Arequipa. Check in to hotel and use the afternoon to explore the historic center and main plaza.
May 29 - The next day, we’ll learn the history of Arequipa as we visit some of Arequipa’s best lookout points. Visit Katie and Jeremy’s house for a dinner on their roof and watch the sun set over the city.
Cusco - Machu Picchu
May 30 - June 3
May 30 - Arrive to Cusco and drive to the Sacred Valley. Relax in the hotel.
May 31 - Train to Machu Picchu. Optional 6-hour hike on the Inca trail to enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. Afternoon spent around the pueblo and hotel learning about their conservation projects with the spectacled bear, birdwatching, and seeing some of the many varieties of orchids.
June 1 - Early morning birding tour (for those that want to) around hotel grounds to see humming birds and many other species. Visit Machu Picchu historic sanctuary. Lunch in town before taking the train back to the Sacred Valley.
June 2 - Sacred Valley of the Incas: Visit the historic sites Ollantaytambo and Moray then the Maras salt mines that are centuries old but still in use today. Visit a homestead that dyes and weaves textiles using alpaca wool. Arrive to Cusco and spend the evening exploring the city center on your own.
June 3 - Cusco: A relaxed walk through the city center and the historic site Sacsayhuaman. For those who would like to end their trip here, you will fly in the afternoon to Lima and then back to the USA.
Puerto Maldonado Rain forest
June 4-9
June 4 - For those continuing on, we will fly to Puerto Maldonado where we will get on a boat and ride down river 45 minutes to our lodge. That afternoon we will do a canopy walk on swinging bridges up in the trees. That night we will ride along the river in boats looking for wildlife.
June 5 - Early morning lake tour riding on the boats looking for wildlife. Afternoon to rest and relax and enjoy the hotel grounds. Night walk through the jungle (looking for snakes and tarantulas!)
June 6 - Early morning tour around a wildlife lake. After relaxing at the hotel, we will visit the hotel’s orchard to see and taste some fruits and termites for the adventurous.
June 7 - Boat ride to Lake Valencia where we will go fishing for piranha and then have a cookout lunch.
June 8 - Spend a relaxed morning enjoying the hotel grounds. Ride the boats back to the city to catch flight to Lima and then on to the USA.
