I (Jeremy) got to share the land of my birth with Katie for the first time in 2008, when I proposed to her in Florence. We've been fortunate enough since then to spend time in Italy on several occasions, working with the HUF documentary group in March 2010, Bison Athletes in Florence in 2011, a visit with Seth and Rebekah and Mark and Lydia in fall of 2013, and as the HUF faculty in spring of 2014. Did I say we love Italy?
Florence
Very likely our favorite city on planet Earth. It's where we got engaged. It's where we've made some of the best memories of our married life. Art, history, architecture, natural beauty: Firenze has it all.
And the food—oh the food.
Tuscany
While we love Florence, we love to venture out into Tuscany just as much. Places like San Gimignano and Siena, Pisa and Lucca, the Casentino. Each town and village has its own story and unique pasta dish. Make your way off of the beaten path and you're sure to learn something new about what it means to really live.
Cinque Terre
Just a train away from Pisa are the Cinque Terre. These "five lands” are five small coastal towns, connected by train tunnels and hiking paths. Work hard hiking and relaxing all day so you can work hard eating and relaxing all night. La vita é bella.
Rome
It's the eternal city. When in Rome. It wasn't built in a day. All roads lead to it. This city of almost 3 million people tells the story of world history without breaking a sweat. You can see it in a day or explore it for a year—neither will disappoint.
